Moving Parts

It’s intuitively obvious that, without support materials, moving parts can’t be printed in place and must be assembled after printing.

Intuitively obvious, and WRONG.

The maker of the car above used an innovative captive wheel to create a car whose wheels only need to be given a bit of a roll to loosen stray strands of plastic.  Emergent ideas like this one are real treasure for Thingiverse.

This object is quite a test for a repstrap. My toy car did not come out well, as the filament drooped too much on the overhangs. I may have to tweek the skeinforge settings.

I do think that it is good that people are exploring the mechanical possibilities.
